[For Immediate Release]
Terry ZOU and Clifton KWAN Takes the Stage
In Gay Drama It’s Oh So Queer (The 3rd Element)
[April 16th, 2012] Stage drama It’s Oh So Queer, which was produced, written
and performed by actor Clifton KWAN Yat-Yeung, showed twice in 2011 and
received enormous feedback. Despite the fact that the theme revolved around a
rather sensitive issue in the Chinese cultural, homosexuality, audience from
different backgrounds had enormous response to the show, both in laughter and
tears. By great demand, Green Splash Productions is proud to present the show
once again, and rocking the stage with KWAN will be singer-songwriter Terry
ZOU Man-Ching, from June 28th to July 1st at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre
Studio Theatre.
Since his first debut album last September, Terry ZOU had made appearances in
television series and various shows, but it’s his first time acting in a drama on
stage. “I think that as a newcomer, I am willing to take on different challenges,
and I am glad to be part of It’s Oh So Queer. I have many gay friends myself,
and I think they are no difference to any of us in the society. Why the
discrimination? I don’t know. If people are willing to take the time to understand
them, love is actually a blessing and can be very simple.” ZOU will be the third
actor to play a gay couple with Clifton KWAN, after last year’s Benji CHIANG and
Him LAW.
In 2012, the show takes on a new identity It’s Oh So Queer (The 3rd Element).
As explained by producer, playwright and actor Clifton KWAN, “We have added a
lot of new elements to the show, for example new actors, who will also create
new music with me for the show; and of course the most important new contents
with considerations from comments from audience in the last two showings. I am
truly thankful for everyone who supported us last year; after all I am only a
newcomer on stage myself. This time we guarantee to present to our audience
yet another amazing show!”
It’s Oh So Queer (The 3rd Element) explores homosexuality in different angles,
through the eyes of main character Jeremy TSUI. His desires for a long lasting
love seems to contradict with what the real world has to offer, and through pain
and tears he sees the reality of life. Can gay men really live a “drama-free” life or
are they just natural born drama-queens? Join the brand new cast with Clifton
KWAN, Terry ZOU, Benedict YUEN and Hitomi LAI in It’s Oh So Queer (The 3rd
Element) as they take you on an emotional roller-coaster.

It’s Oh So Queer (The 3rd Element) will be shown from June 28th to July 1st, 2012
at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Studio Theatre. Performance in Cantonese
with English Subtitles. For more information please visit http://www.gsconcepts.

Overview
The overall level of understanding in Hong Kong of LGBT individuals and the challenges they may face is low.  Many in Hong Kong view sexual orientation and gender identity as a sensitive issue and the subject is rarely openly discussed. The same applies to the workplace where the interests and needs of LGBT employees are largely ignored.  Many companies fail to understand the business case for creating an inclusive workplace for LGBT employees.
This study seeks to advance the dialogue on this important subject in Hong Kong. By examining both the attitudes towards and experiences of LGBT employees in Hong Kong, this two-part study provides a picture of the current context and challenges LGBT individuals face – both in the wider community and in the workplace – and highlights the challenges and opportunities that exist for companies in Hong Kong.To find out more about the Hong Kong LGBT Climate Study 2011-12, visit http://www.communitybusiness.org/lgbt/climatestudy.html

Prince of Wales Hospital To Reopen Clinic and Deliver Sex Reassignment Surgery for Transgendered People (Apple Daily, 2012-04-08)

by Leo

After Queen Mary Hospital folded its sex clinic in 2005, sex reassignment surgery has only been performed in Ruttonjee Hospital, but according to this Apple Daily feature, the Prince of Wales Hospital plans to open a new clinic for transgendered people this year. The feature also includes interviews with a couple of transgendered persons, one of whom accused Christian Zheng Sheng College, a drug rehab, of barring her from seeing the psychiatrist.

(Apple Daily, 2012-04-08)

(Apple Daily, 2012-04-08)

(Apple Daily, 2012-04-08)

(Apple Daily, 2012-04-08)

Local Transgender Short “My Way” Premieres at HK International Film Festival (2012-03-24)

by Leo

My Way, directed by Ann Hui, starring Francis Ng (description by HKIFF)

Lately Ann Hui is happiest portraying common men and women finding hope and dignity in everyday life and ordinary circumstances. The situation here is a little out of the ordinary: a middle-aged office executive with a wife, a teenage son and a good job feels deep down that he is a woman. He confesses to his wife and undergoes the operation which transforms him from a man to a woman. Will he live happily ever after? He doesn’t know but he is content with his decision.

(Sing Tao, 2012-03-24)
